zone 2 ceiling distance
does an IP44 zone 2 tube heater have to be a certain distance from ceiling?

Re: zone 2 ceiling distance
An IP44 piece of equipment is fine for anywhere in zone 2, so positioning in relation to the ceiling is purely down to the piece of equipment itself.
Do the instructions say anything about clearances ? If so follow those, if not, it's probably best to consult the manufacturer.
But, being in zone 2 won't affect it.

Of course, there's one thing I forgot to mention - being in a bathroom it needs to be fitted by a Part P qualified electrician, or needs to be checked by same.

But how far down from the ceiling would zone 2 start for the heater? I suppose you would say that depends on the heater, but I don't want to buy it unless OK, and the website specs aren't so informative. Recently noticed such
heaters are only 80W for 1 foot (could go to 18"), and 80W must be nothing for
someone in a bath - just a non-economy light bulb!

Re: zone 2 ceiling distance
For the zones its not a case of how far from the ceiling, it is how far away from the bath etc.

John's right - it's how far from the bath which matters, but I think the website John points you to has out of date info - try http://diydata.com/electrics/bathroom_e ... ctrics.php .
Zone 2 is from side/end of bath out 0.6m horizontal and vertically to 2.25m above floor (or bottom of bath would make more sense)so you can position a IP44 heater anywhere within this or beyond (further than 0.6m from the bath horizontally or above 2.25m).
Jack, reading your last comment describing the heater you are considering, are you thinking about tubular heaters ? If so, forget it (imho), as you say, these are pretty low wattage and not much use for space heating, mainly suitable for frost protection and airing cupboards etc. Also the surface of them becomes hot so must be out of reach or protected. Far better to have oil filler rad (I haven't checked, but suspect at least IP44) or wall mounted fan heater if you can position far enough away from bath i.e. out of the zones.
But don't forget, Part P applies, so discuss with the electrician before purchasing.
