Any telephone engineers out there?

The ringer on my landline phones have stopped working, though the LED on the phone flashes to indicate a call is coming through. I've checked the obvious - the ringer is switched on - and BT has tested the line remotely and say there is no fault. I've tried having only one handset plugged in so the circuit is not overloaded.
The callout charge is £105 if I call out an engineer and they still find no fault in the BT line. I would be grateful if anyone can throw any light on this problem before I commit myself to it.

Bob, i'm no engineer but the same thing was happening to me at work.

i found out that the phone setting was incorrect and when i changed it it worked ok. think it has a tone/pulse setting or if not, its something similar....

bob another solution is either primary box is knackered or if extension is fitted ringing loop on connection no.3 is broken
