radiators - building regs

Postby David Genner » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:13 pm

Hi there just wondering if you could help i recently converted my garage which was integral in to a play room and fitted a radiator of my original system, all my radiators just have the normal controls (not the controls with numbers on) a part from the one in the bathroom which is a towel radiator. when i had the property inspected by building regs he said he couldn't pass it because the radiator didn't have the controls with the numbers on, is this true, if so why do they sell radiators with the normal values???
hope you can help

I think what he means is that you do not have thermostatic radiators valves (TRV) fitted which turn off as a set temperature is reached. The whole of the energy related building regs is tight now and TRVs have to be fitted. Surely you have to insulate the wall of the garage too.
The thermostatic valves are quite cheap at Wickes etc. and easy to fix.
BTW the rads are always sold separately to the valves
